Skipping School for Planet Earth
Meghna Shankar is passionate about the environment, sustainability and climate action. She has been interested in the environment for as long as she can remember, but her desire to be involved in climate action kicked off after she read Our Choice by Al Gore in 5th grade. She is currently the president of the Redmond High School Green Team, where she has improved the recycling system at the school. She also organized a Redmond branch of the worldwide School Strike for Climate on March 15th and has been attending climate strikes on Fridays at the Seattle City Hall since. She is inspired by Swedish youth climate activist Greta Thunberg, who has demanded that world leaders take action to combat the climate crisis though her Fridays for Future campaign. The UN has given us only 11 years to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Meghna urges students to stand up for our future and prevent irreversible climate change from becoming a reality.
